Prague BMP Tank Driving Experience – Let the Groom Take the Wheel
Most stag activities put the group in the same situation. This one gives the groom something nobody else gets — the actual controls of a real Soviet military vehicle, with the rest of the group along for the ride.
It's not something you stumble across on a regular stag weekend list. And once the groom realises he's genuinely driving a BMP — not sitting in it, not watching it — the reaction is something we never get tired of seeing.
The BMP driving experience is built around one person: the groom. While the group rides inside the vehicle, he takes the wheel under the supervision of a professional military instructor who handles the full training session before anyone gets near the controls.
This isn't a theme park simulator. It's a real post-Soviet armoured personnel carrier on real off-road terrain. The instructor is there to make sure everything runs safely — but the driving is entirely the groom's.
Your private guide meets the group at your accommodation and transfers everyone to the tankodrome by private shuttle. The site sits around 60 minutes from the city centre — public transport doesn't reach it, and taxis back are essentially non-existent. The private transfer is part of the package for good reason.
On arrival, the professional instructor takes the groom through a complete training and safety briefing before the driving begins. The rest of the group gets comfortable inside the vehicle — and then holds on.
The drive covers approximately 5 kilometres of proper off-road terrain and lasts 25 to 30 minutes. Honest advice for the group: brace yourselves. Having someone drive a BMP for the first time is an experience that's as entertaining from the inside as it looks from the outside.
After the drive, everyone visits the Military Tank Museum — a genuine collection of combat vehicles worth more than a quick look — before finishing with a round of traditional Czech beer.
Why This is the Ultimate Groom Activity
Giving the groom something genuinely different on his last weekend of freedom is the whole point. Driving a Soviet armoured vehicle through off-road terrain while his mates are rattling around in the back isn't something he'll be doing again anytime soon. It's the kind of memory that outlasts the wedding photos.
The BMP driving experience is only possible in countries with access to post-Soviet military surplus — which is a short list. Prague is on it. Most stag destinations aren't.
What's Included
Tip: Sturdy shoes or boots for everyone — the tankodrome is rough ground and you'll be climbing in and out of a military vehicle. Leave the good trainers at the hotel.
